Teeth! Poo! Squash!

On 5 Sept 12 (my dad's birthday, coincidentally) Logan cut his first tooth. He hadn't fussed more than usual before it sprouted up, but he's definitely been sucking on his hands a ton and drooling even more. (Although to be honest, the drool thing has been for two months now.)

But, there wasn't any noticeable change in his behavior before it showed up, so maybe teething won't be so bad for him. I have the Baby Orajel, though, just in case.

And for the parents out there, who miss poop talk: He's scarfing down the rice cereal, but his bowel movements have changed drastically. I've been the recipient of two poo-showers as he's gone for two days without a poo and then suddenly, the gates are opened. This deluge is of biblical proportions, and his diapers cannot handle God's wrath. My plan for dealing with this is to switch him from rice cereal to oatmeal or barley (whichever he prefers or both) since rice can be somewhat binding.

His first non-rice cereal food was some squash. I didn't see him eat it, but Mike took a rather hilarious photo of him with this look of "Oh, man, I don't think I like this" on his face (which is covered in squash.) He apparently ate it, though. We gave it to him twice, and I would have given it to him for a couple more days since he didn't react quite as dramatically with the second exposure, but the store didn't have any more. We'll try it again later.

Today, we tried carrots which he slurped up, eating the entire jar. A few more days of carrots and we'll try peas. I hate peas, so it's sort of against my religion to subject my child to peas, but Mike likes them, so maybe he will, too.

It's fun watching him eat. He watches you mix up the cereal with a laser-focused intensity, removing his hand and popping open his gob as soon as the spoon leaves the bowl.  The spoonful goes in, followed immediately by the return of the hand, which helpfully assists some of the food back out of his mouth, mooshed into his face and up his nose.

I swear he's grown another six inches or something, too, because he's suddenly more complicated to maneuver into place during breastfeeding. It doesn't help that he's now distracted by everything, so he eats for a short while, then throws himself backwards, craning his head to look around the room. It's a wrestling match now, and he's really quite strong.
